Greenpeace is a global network of independent campaigning organizations that use peaceful protest and creative confrontation to expose global environmental problems and promote solutions that are essential to a green, just, and joyful future.
Greenpeace USA is dedicated to a comprehensive overhaul of the nation's unjust social, environmental, and economic structures to combat the climate crisis, ensure the well-being of our planet for future generations, promote racial equity, and foster an economy that prioritizes people over profits. The battle to preserve our planet and its inhabitants has reached a critical juncture. The severe repercussions of climate change, an exploitative, racially biased, and unequal socio-economic system, the degradation of ecosystems driven by profit-driven corporations and governments, and the deteriorating state of our oceans are escalating rapidly. The era of gradual change has passed. What is imperative now is a profound transformation — and the urgency cannot be overstated.
Plastics In 1971, a determined group of activists embarked from Vancouver, Canada on the aging fishing vessel, the Phyllis Cormack. Their objective: to protest nuclear testing conducted by the US military on Amchitka, a small volcanic island off the coast of western Alaska. Despite being intercepted by the US Coast Guard, their courage drew global attention to the hazards of nuclear testing. These activists and their supporters laid the foundation for the movement that ultimately evolved into the worldwide network that Greenpeace represents today. Throughout a significant portion of a century, Greenpeace has undeniably reshaped the world. We are prepared to journey to the farthest corners of the Earth to safeguard our planet for the prosperity of future generations. Our devoted activists and advocates have united to halt commercial whaling, put an end to nuclear testing, defend the Arctic, and champion the Global Oceans Treaty — hailed as the most robust climate treaty in history — and achieved numerous other milestones.
Greenpeace confronts the structures of authority and advantage that lead to environmental degradation and disproportionately affect the most vulnerable communities. Achieving environmental justice means integrating racial and socioeconomic equity into our efforts to safeguard the planet. We understand that establishing a harmonious, sustainable future for everyone necessitates a varied, community-driven movement that prioritizes those who are most affected and marginalized, so that no one is overlooked.
We embrace, appreciate, and lean on a range of individuals with diverse cultural backgrounds and viewpoints. We gain knowledge from each other. Through our advocacy, we develop approaches that advance environmentally sustainable practices grounded in principles of justice.
Greenpeace does not solicit contributions from government or corporations, nor will we endorse political candidates. Over 3.5 million Greenpeacers like you provide virtually all of our funding through individual contributions. Your support provides the backbone of our organization and is invaluable to our efforts.
